The World Tree is Palworld 1.0's endgame area, and one of the first things players try is to set up camp beside it. The short answer is that you can't, but there are good spots close by, and a few World Tree rules explain the "my items disappeared" complaints.
The rule: no bases inside the World Tree area
Base building is blocked across the World Tree area. Try to place a Palbox and the game refuses, saying you are too close to a special boss or facility. Without a Palbox:
- structures you manage to place slowly deteriorate;
- Pals can't be assigned to work there.
So even where a wall or a campfire goes down, it isn't a real base. Community mods remove the restriction on PC, but they are unofficial and can break with patches.
Where to build instead
1. The foot of the World Tree (on water). Since 1.0 you can build over water with the Aquatic Construction Kit. The lake at the tree's base sits outside the blocked zone, so a floating base there is the closest you can get. It is flat, open and very pretty at night.
2. Sunreach, next to Soralite. The flat ground by the Soralite cluster (around -583, -1444) keeps late-game ore flowing. See the Sunreach guide.
3. Sakurajima. Flat pink-leaf terrain with oil and Hard Wood nearby, both needed for endgame crafting.
A practical setup: one mining or oil base for materials, and a fast-travel point (plus a flying mount) for World Tree runs.
Getting to the World Tree
- Beat every tower boss in Palpagos, Feybreak and Sunreach.
- That unlocks a quest to catch Panthalus.
- Use Whalaska at an altar to cross the barrier.
The World Tree's own tower boss is Zenara and Astralym at level 80, in the tall tower at the western corner of the area. Astralym can't be caught anywhere else.
Why items "disappear" in the World Tree
Two different things cause this:
- Paloxite and Mythical Wood only stay in your hands if both you and your active Pal have Holy Water applied when you gather them. Without it, they vanish.
- Unsupported structures decay because no Palbox can be placed.
There is a second fix for the first problem: the seven World Tree passive skills (Demon's Hand, Dimensional Leap, God of Destruction, Hermit Sage, Sanctified Meat Shield, Twin-Edged Holy Blade and World Tree's Bounty) all include "World Tree resources will not vanish when approached". Each also has a strong upside with a real drawback, for example Demon's Hand gives +90% work speed but SAN drains 15% faster.
What makes the trip worth it
- Awakened Pals: wild Pals with a glowing blue aura. Each has at least one World Tree-only passive skill.
- Radiant Gems, used to Awaken your own Pals. Patch 1.0.4 fixed World Tree Pals dropping gems with the wrong or unevenly weighted elements.
- Grand Master fishing spots, which can give Ancient Relics. 1.0.4 also adjusted World Tree fishing difficulty.
Ancient Relics feed the Ancient Relic Recycler, which makes one-use passive implants. See the Surgery Table guide.
