Palworld base building guide

Quick answer

A Palworld base is the 35 m circle around a Palbox, which you unlock at level 2. Finishing build tasks raises the base level, which sets how many Pals can work there (one per level, up to 30) and how many bases you can run: a second at base level 8, a third at 15 and a fourth at 25.

How do you build a base?

Craft a Palbox: it unlocks at level 2 for 1 Technology Point and costs Paldium Fragment ×1, Wood ×8, Stone ×3. Wherever you place it, the circle around it becomes your base. Its first level-up task asks for Wooden Chest, Primitive Workbench, 1 Pal working, so a chest and a workbench are the natural first builds.

How many bases can you have?

Up to 4 in the 1.0.5 game data. The limit grows with base level, not with your player level:

Base limit by base level
BasesBase levelPals per base
111
288
31515
42525

The limit counts per guild, so a solo player and a whole guild share the same number. Dedicated-server admins can change the base and worker limits in the world settings.

When can you build a second or third base?

A second base unlocks when your base reaches level 8, a third at level 15 and a fourth at level 25. This is the level of your base (shown at the Palbox), not your player level. All 35 base levels and their tasks.

Can you make your base bigger?

No. Every base has the same radius, 35 m around the Palbox (game setting BaseCampAreaRange = 3,500 cm), and the base level table has no range column: levelling up adds Pals and base slots, never area. The game's minimum distance between bases is 15 m (85 m on PvP servers). To cover more ground, build another base.

How many Pals can work at a base?

One Pal per base level: 1 at level 1, 10 at level 10, up to 30 from level 30 on (levels 31 to 35 keep 30). Pals sitting in the Palbox don't count; only the ones you put to work do.

How do you level up a base?

Each level has a task list: build the listed structures inside the base and, at some levels, have more Pals working. When the list is done the base levels up. The first levels:

Tasks for every level up to 35.

Which Pals should work at your base?

Base jobs need a Pal with that work suitability, and a higher level works faster. The best Pals for each job, by level:

For a starting base, see the best early-game Pals, which you can catch by level 15. Nocturnal Pals keep working at night.

Can bases share items?

Yes, through the Guild Chest (ancient technology, level 41): its 54 slots hold the same items in every base where you place one. Inside one base, the Item Retrieval Machine (level 49) lets you take items from all of that base's chests in one place.

How do you move a base?

There is no "move base" option: a base is wherever its Palbox stands. If you have a free base slot (see the table above), build the new Palbox first, move your Pals and items over (a Guild Chest helps), then dismantle the old Palbox. Empty the old chests before you dismantle anything. To manage a base from a different spot without moving it, the Palbox Control Device (level 32) is a remote terminal for the Palbox that you can place anywhere in the base.

Can you build a base in the World Tree?

No. Base building is blocked in the World Tree area. See building near the World Tree for where to build instead.

Where should you build your base?

Build near the resources you will use most. On the interactive map, open Layers and switch on Minerals to see every ore, coal, sulfur and quartz node. Mining Pals then work the nodes inside your base circle.

Plan the build: every structure with its materials and the technology tree by level.
