Mutation arrived with Palworld 1.0 and gave breeding a real endgame. In the official patch notes' words, Pals from mutated eggs have higher stats and a unique passive skill compared with normally bred Pals. In practice, a mutated Pal is one of the strongest things you can hatch, and the only source of five exclusive passives.
The odds
| Cake | Mutation chance per egg (community data) |
|---|---|
| Cake (and cakes without a mutation bonus) | about 1% |
| Vegetable Cake | about 2% per cycle, because it lays two eggs |
| Extravagant (Deluxe) Vegetable Cake, Tech 60 | about 3% |
Pocketpair hasn't published exact rates; these come from community testing and data mining (Paldb and others), so treat them as close, not exact.
What a mutated Pal gets
- A Huge egg, always. That is how you spot one before it hatches.
- Alpha status, with the Alpha stat bonus.
- Two condensation stars from birth, so it needs only 36 more copies to reach four stars instead of 48.
- High talents (IVs), reported in the 90 to 100 range.
- At least one mutation-only rainbow passive, usually in the first passive slot. The remaining slots are inherited or random as usual.
Sources disagree on one point: Game8 reports that a mutated egg can hatch a random Pal of the same tier or higher than the pair's normal child, while other guides say the species stays the same. If you are breeding for one specific species, don't count on a mutation to deliver it.
The five mutation passives
| Passive | Effect |
|---|---|
| Babysitter | +30% egg production speed and +30% incubation speed on a Breeding Farm |
| Heavily Armored | Immune to explosion damage |
| Immortality | 5% life steal, +100% health regeneration, +15% Attack |
| Sky Strider | +2 jumps while riding (Game8 lists it as Skymarcher) |
| Idiosyncratic | +50% health regeneration, +25% Defense, immune to poison and burns |
Patch 1.0.4 (7 September 2026) fixed Idiosyncratic, which wasn't activating correctly before, and fixed extra eggs from Grintale's skill not carrying their mutated stats.
How to farm mutations
- Unlock Extravagant Vegetable Cake (Technology Level 60). Ingredients: 12 Flour, 8 Cotton Candy, 10 Potatoes, 6 Onions, 8 Carrots.
- Run several Breeding Farms at once. At about 3%, you are looking at roughly 33 eggs per mutation on average, so volume matters.
- Use parents whose passives you would keep anyway. The mutated child still inherits from its parents, so clean parents give you a clean mutated Pal.
- Keep Huge eggs separate and hatch them first.
- Put a Babysitter on the farm once you have one. Faster eggs mean faster mutations.
What to do with a mutated Pal
- Keep it as a parent. Its passive and high talents flow into your other lines. See passive inheritance and IVs and talents.
- Finish its condensation. It already has two stars; see the condensation guide.
- Pick the right job. Babysitter belongs on a Breeding Farm, Sky Strider on a mount, Immortality and Idiosyncratic on a front-line fighter.
